Certified Event, Etiquette and Protocol Consultant, Crespo Events + Protocol, Washington D.C.

I have done events for over 12 years; I have been chief of protocol of two important government agencies; I have taken many classes and certifications, but none compared to the quality and prestige of PSOW. In my opinion, the School is the holy grail of protocol training.

Guest Recognition Coordinator - The Ritz-Carlton

Phoenix, Arizona

Your expertise: Personal liaison and key point person to diverse clientele including celebrities, corporate leaders, head of state and foreign dignitaries. Creator of memorable experiences for most valued customers.

Your proudest moment in your career: I have been fulfilled both personally and professionally whenever I have lead effectively, inspired or problem-solved my way through near impossible situations, but my proudest moments continue to stem from the opportunities I have had to aid people in difficult situations and some of their darkest hours. A prime example: caring for the relatives of the crash victims of EgyptAir flight 990; many of them in shock and struggling to cope with a foreign country and language. We assisted the Red Cross and NTS with briefings, installed additional international phone lines, juggled meals for the relatives, volunteers and press while ensuring we had maximum security to protect the families from the media. It was my job to stay focused on the tasks at hand, but my duty as a human being, that made me the most proud.

Your professional tip of the day: There is value in the process.

Lesson learned on the job: Patience, the ability to listen, time management, organization, and professionalism (your are always “on”) are keys to success, but there is nothing like the importance of humor in a stressful environment.

How, specifically, did the school impact your career, or current job position?: PSOW built a strong foundation by exposing me to new skills, ideas, data, and an invaluable network of professionals. They enhanced the abilities I had or needed to polish, such as: confidence, public speaking, and making introductions.

Most valuable resource as it applies to your career (i.e. books, professional organization, etc.): Global Road Warrior database and Robert Hickey’s book “Honor & Respect.”

Where do you see your career in 5 years? I would like to continue within the hospitality industry as a corporate trainer providing needed lessons in protocol, business etiquette, and cultural awareness. My ultimate goal is to develop a series of programs that would incorporate business and social etiquette education based on hands-on training and experiences in a resort setting.

Your mentor: My grandfather - his sense of humor, kindness, strong work ethic, character and his contribution to his family and community are a true inspiration.

Your motto: “You are not here merely to make a living. You are here in order to enable the world to live more amply, with greater vision, with a finer spirit of hope and achievement. You are here to enrich the world and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.” - Woodrow Wilson
